5 Steps to Decluttering Your Home

Decluttering your home can be an enormous undertaking, one that feels really daunting to even think about. That’s why we have accumulated these five steps that will help you to declutter your home in a jiffy.

Be prepared for the war against clutter!

Start off by creating a list of all the areas you are planning to clean. The list does not have to be comprehensive, but make sure to include all the areas that are to be decluttered.

These areas generally include your kitchen cupboards, closets, storage areas and wardrobes around the home as well as sheds and garage.

Give yourself a clean slate!

It is always a good idea to empty out the room before cleaning. Though it can be difficult sometimes, using this technique can provide you with great space, both physically and psychologically, to get your cleaning missions started.

You can also arrange similar items from different areas in a single place. This sorting technique will help you stay focused and provide you a plan of attack, which will save you plenty of time and energy.

Let it go!

It is extremely difficult to let your possessions go, especially if there is an emotional attachment involved with them. However, it is important to decide what you need and what you don’t.

Being a little bit ruthless can save you a lot of space. If you are having difficulty in throwing away these unwanted items, perhaps you can invite a friend round to help you out.

Give them what they want!

Once you have sorted out the discarded items, you can sort them into three categories: selling, donating, and throwing away items. For items which have a resalable value like your vintage jacket or Nintendo, you can auction them off using sites like eBay etc.

If the item is in good condition but does not have a good resale value, consider donating it to a local charity. Finally, the items in poor condition should be discarded in the rubbish bin.

Rebuild your new dream room!

Finally, time for the fun part! Start reconstructing your rooms and areas as you envisioned them. You can be creative and place the items where they will be useful and appreciated more. You can tweak the space until everything looks perfect!

Finally – good luck!
