Meals on Wheels ‘more than food’, says charity

December 7, 2017 . 7:31 am

Age Concern says its meals on wheels service is a lifeline for older people.

The charity released a statement yesterday voicing its concern over the welfare of elderly people on the Island following a decision by the Department of Health and Social Care to scrap a contract with it.

Chief executive Helen Southworth says the service is more than just a meal – it includes wellbeing and safety checks.

She says 33 per cent of elderly residents said meals on wheels drivers were the only person they saw all day on days meals were delivered.
